Petar Mattioni on Rethinking Space in Higher Ed
Petar Mattioni, Partner was recently featured in Tradeline's article Return on Mission: Rethinking Space and Purpose in Higher Education. In contrast to an ROI approach, the Return on Mission (ROM) framework focuses on advancing the core goals of universities and a flexible combination of metrics that evaluate space investments. Petar discussed the benefits of the ROM approach as costs rise and institutions rethink their approach to physical spaces.

“We say all the time, ‘The building will do this, the building will do that,’ says Mattioni. “But how do you know if it actually delivers? These metrics give us a way to prove it out ahead of time."
KSS and our design partners utilized the ROM approach at three of our recent projects: Rowan University's Discovery Hall and University of Pennsylvania's Amy Gutmann Hall and Tangen Hall.
