The Opportunity

Arsenal Trade Center's site is just four miles east of the New Jersey Turnpike and is within an hour’s drive of New York City and a day’s drive of more than one-third of the U.S. population. The project’s proximity to major transportation arteries, such as the New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway, allows for efficient access throughout the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area.

Our Approach

Paying homage to Parlin, New Jersey’s industrial legacy, KSS blended historical significance into a forward-thinking design. The former Hercules site, once a hub of technological advancement in chemical manufacturing, exemplifies innovation and industry leadership. Additionally, Parlin’s clay-rich soil supported a thriving brickmaking industry, contributing durable materials that shaped urban landscapes in New York City and northern New Jersey. Drawing from these rich traditions, our design incorporates brick at the base of the building entrances to honor the town’s connection to brickmaking. Above, sweeping steel forms symbolize progress and innovation, reflecting the pioneering spirit of the Hercules site. Together, these materials and forms create a dynamic interplay, rooting the project in its historical context while marking a space for future innovation.
