The Opportunity

Stoltz Real Estate Partners sought to develop an industrial facility on the site of an abandoned quarry adjacent to the Wilmington Airport. KSS's design frames the building within the landscape and is a response to the project’s unique location within the commercial and industrial context of New Castle, Delaware.

Our Approach

Prompted by the site’s proximity to the airport, the design offers a simple diagrammatic expression that is inspired by the concepts of ascent and descent. Proportions are crafted to draw attention to the corners with diagonal slicing giving hierarchy to the facade. These diagonal lines also express an extension of the design beyond the site itself in a gesture of connection to a wide network of flight patterns and approach paths utilized at Wilmington Airport.
