The Opportunity
Drew University embarked on a new vision for the sciences that establishes interdisciplinary programs and initiatives, collaboration among disciplines and with the community, and immersion in mentored research. The Hall of Sciences, built in the 1960s, had undergone several renovations and program changes; however, it remained obsolete relative to science learning and research. The University’s new vision and growth led the need for a state-of-the-art facility.
Our Approach
KSS worked closely with Drew University to explore options for expanding and renovating the Hall of Sciences. The study recommended an addition to connect the Hall of Sciences with the neighboring liberal arts building, Brothers College. Lab clusters were organized along a transparent façade, bringing science activity to the rest of campus. Phase 1 of the project was the renovation of the Psychology Department. The department’s mission is to teach psychology as a research science in the context of a liberal arts education through a comprehensive curriculum and innovative pedagogy. The pedagogy promotes a high quality education by emphasizing excellence in teaching, research methodology, experiential learning, mentoring, independent study, and utilization of technology. The new spaces support the administration and pedagogical needs of this important discipline.
